Background And Objective : Recent studies suggest that periodontal disease, as a source of sub clinical and persistent infection may induce systemic inflammatory responses that increase the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes The aim of this study is to examine the existing evidence on relationship between periodontal disease and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Scope of the study was limited to preterm labour and preeclampsia. Methods : In this hospital based observational study, we examined all antenatal patients in the third trimester admitted in antenatal and labour ward in department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at SRMC & RI, Chennai from May 2006 to August 2008.
