Cervical cancer is the most common malignancy in females in developing countries. It is believed to have an infectious etiology. High risk Human papilloma viruses are also associated with cervical cancers. Objectives : To detect the presence of HPV types 16 & 18 by in situ hybridization in cervical biopsy specimen and evaluate their role in pathogenesis of Ca cervix. Method : 50 cases of preinvasive squamous epithelial lesions / invasive cases of malignancy of cervix and 10 cases with normal cervical biopsies were taken for the study. Observation : Age of the cases varied from 28- 70 years.
