Objectives : To determine the prevalence and risk factors of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Indian women. Methods : In this cross sectional study, 96 post menopausal apparently healthy women were evaluated by a questionnaire that could put a woman at risk for osteoporosis. The bone mineral density (BMD) at lumber spine and femoral neck were measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometery (DXA). A T- score < -2.5 reflects osteoporosis. Results : The mean age and age of menopause of the 96 women was 53.59 years and 46.09 years respectively. The prevalence of osteoporosis was 30.20% and 20.83% at lumbar spine and femoral neck respectively.
