In India the awareness to passive smoking or ETS (Environmental tobacco exposure ) is still in the nascent stage. Tobacco smoke contains many chemicals which can affect the pregnant women and the fetus. In pregnancy the developing fetus and the mother are susceptible to this type of environmental damage. Objectives : To study the prevalence , maternal and perinatal outcome of Passive smoking during pregnancy. Type Of Study : Epidemiological Observational study Setting : Institute Of Obstetrics And Gynecology Chennai, Tamilnadu Methods : 454 non smoking women who delivered a singleton baby in the hospital were studied Details of exposure to smoking were elicited by using a questionnaire.
