In India, 15,000-20,000 abortion related deaths are reported every year There is unmet need for an easily available, safe and effective method of early pregnancy termination. Three methods which fulfill this need are Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA), Electric Vacuum Evacuation (EVA) and Medical Abortion. MVA and EVA have the advantage of being one step procedure Medical abortion will not replace but is an alternative to surgical method. The study was conducted over a period of twelve months in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun from April 2006 to May 2007.
