Aim: Diabetes in pregnant women is increasing and with that the complications in their offspring. We studied our population of diabetic mothers (2007-2008) for ventricular hypertrophy (VH). Methods and results: In our study of 54 diabetic pregnancies (54 neonates), none were type 1, 2 were type 2, and 52 were gestational diabetes (GDM)-The pregnancies with type 2 diabetes were managed with insulin and 4 of the GDM pregnancies required insulin. The remaining 48 of GDM pregnancies were managed with diet alone. A total of 41 neonates were normal, 13 had VH, and one had CHD. Of the 52 GDM pregnancies eleven neonates had VH. Both neonates of type 2 pregnancy showed VH.
