Objectives : 1.To know the Maternal mortality rate 2.To analyse the causes of maternal deaths and preventable factors. Observations : Out of 6153 live births, there were 95 Maternal deaths with an MMR of 1544 per 1,00,000 live births. Majority (77.89%) of patients belonged to lower socioeconomic status. Large number (43.16%) of deaths were in the age group of 21-25 yrs .Mortality was high in unbooked cases compared to booked (63.16%Vs 36.84%) . Maternal deaths were more (83%) in referred patients compared to direct admissions (16.85%). Nearly 60 % of deaths occurred within 24 hours of admission. Among 95 deaths, 42 (44.21%) women had delivered vaginally, 22 (23.16%) women were undelivered.
