Obiective: To observe the effect of instrumental delivery on outcome for mother and baby. Methods: A retrospective study of all instrumental deliveries over a period of one year from July 2007 to June 2008 in a tertiary health care centre was carried out. The relevant matemal and neonatal data including age, parity, birth weight, apgar score , matemal and fetal morbidity and mortality, were collected and analysed. Results: Over a period of one year, 6470 vaginal deliveries were conducted in the labour room. The instrumental delivery rate was 3.98%, with overall forceps delivery rate of 1.43% and ventouse delivery rate of 2.55%.
