Objective : To analyse causes of maternal deaths & near miss case in a tertiary hospital. Methods : All maternal deaths occurring over the past 1 year in our hospital were analysed. Patients who were seriously ill and in morbid condition were also included in the analysis. Results : The total number of deliveries were 3626. These were 5 maternal deaths. The morbidly sick patients included those with eclampsia, abruption, jaundice etc which were 39 cases. Five maternal deaths were reported as follows. 1.Mrs.V, 22 years, Primi presented with 33 weeks of pregnancy with severe headache, fever and vomiting. No PIH. Found to have severe IUGR. LSCS was done after stabilizing.
