Objective: With progress in modern obstetrics, the focus has shifted to decreasing maternal and fetal morbidity. In recent years, viral infections have gained the attention of the obstetricians in causation of various maternal and fetal infections and their implication in later life. Among viral agents prominent are the Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV), Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), Rubella, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Hepatitis B & C viruses.
