Introduction: Anaemia is a preventable complication of pregnancy .still a major killer of both mother and baby. Aims & ObJective : To find out percentage of total maternal mortality due to anaemia in pregnancy and to identify the factors responsibil for high mortality rate . Material & Methods : A retrospective analysis of maternal mortality cases due to anaemia from August 2007 to July 2008 from the case records in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology ,CSMMU(Formerly KGMU) Lucknow. Results : During the above period there were 4051 deliveries and a total of 191 deaths . Out of these 40 deaths were due to anaemia giving the incidence of 20.94%.
