Objectives : Our objective was to compare the efficacy and side effects of two regimens of vaginal misoprostol for second trimester voluntary medical termination of pregnancy(MTP) according to MTP Act of India. Methods : A prospective randomized trial was conducted at NRS Medical College, Kolkata among 185 women in 12-20 weeks of pregnancy opting for voluntary termination of pregnancy from January 2007 to September 2008. Women in group I were given vaginal misoprostol 400 ug every 6 h for a maximum of four doses. Women in group 2 were given vaginal misoprostol 400 ug every 12 h for a maximum of four doses. Primary outcome measure was induction-abortion interval.
