From the abstract

Objectives : Good Maternal Nutrition status seems to be a good start in the life of infant. This study implies effect of maternal nutrition on foetal growth. Material & Methods : In developing countries many women are short, underweight, anemic and malnourished due to many reasons , hence the number of low birth weigh t(LBW) babies is high i.e. more than 30% in South Asia, 10-20% in other regions. LBW's are more prone to disease, impaired mental & physical health. We have studied many epidemiological data & clinical trials ,in which there is strong corelation between maternal weight gain during pregnancy and LBW/IUGR.Proper food supplementation had a positive effect on birthwieght and IUGR.
