Hearing loss after subarachnoid block occurs due to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage from the dural hole. In recent years, another modification of CSE has been introduced into clinical practice of anesthesia – epidural volume extension (EVE). Objectives: To compare hearing loss using pure tone audiometry in patients receiving: (1) Single shot subarachnoid block, and (2) Combined spinal epidural block with epidural volume extension. Methods: This randomized, controlled, double blinded trial was carried on 30 patients of either sex, aged 18 to 60 years, scheduled to undergo lower abdominal surgery. They were divided into two groups of 15 each.
