Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most frequently occurring nosocomial infection associated with increased morbidity and mortality and may be influenced by oral health. We hypothesized that oral decontamination with either 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution or H2O2 in Normal Saline in the ratio of 1:8 would reduce the incidence of VAP and oropharyngeal colonization. Objectives: To compare the effect of oral decontamination with 0.2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate solution Vs H2O2 solution on the incidence Of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in mechanically ventilated patients. Methods: A prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial design was used.
