Safety is the fundamental principle of patient care and component of quality management. Though not part of the Hippocratic oath, the principle of ‘Primum non- nocere – First, do no harm’ is the foremost lesson, taught to medical professionals. With the publication of landmark paper ‘To err is human’ by the Institute of Medicine in the US, brought the patient safety issues to the forefront. Medical errors with serious consequences occur more commonly in high acuity areas such as ICU, OR & ER, places where anesthesiologists and intensivists are intimately involved.
