It was about 800 years B.C. that a prophet taught the mankind that life can be brought back by ventilating the Lungs. We also owe to Andreas Vesalius, Prof. of Anatomy who in 1543 showed that rhythmic inflation of lungs through a tube put in through a hole made in trachea and blowing air through it could maintain life. 6th of Oct. 1907 was a turning point when Mr. Johann Heinrich Drager (of Drager Co.) received the patent for his ventilator “Pulmotor”. In coming 5 years about 3000 his ventilators were in use.
