Significant number of ICU patients exhibit serious coagulation disorders associated with or without bleeding. These coagulation disorders vary in intensity and duration in many of the clinical scenario. We do not find a direct co-relation between severity of disorder and risk of bleeding. The problem is further compounded when the disorders is of mix variety like thrombocytopenia and increase coagulation parameters like PT and aPTT existing together. In DIC two diametrically opposite things happen. On the one hand at the micro vascular level thrombosis causes microcirculatory failure and on the other hand severe coagulopathy and thrombocytopenia may results in bleeding.
