From the abstract

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is normally performed under general anaesthesia, but regional techniques have been found to be a safer alternative. Encouraged by such experience, spinal anaesthesia was given in lower thoracic segments for laparoscopic procedures in which general anaesthesia was not indicated due to serious medical problems. Methods: Twenty patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy having body mass index < 30, received spinal anaesthesia at T10 – T11 interspace using pencil point needles & 1 ml (5 mg) of Bupivacaine mixed with 50µgm of Clonidine.
