Environmental Assessment Division, BARC, Trombay, Mumbai 400 085 ABSTRACT The Singhbhum shear zone is well known for its uranium resources. The growing demands of metal grade uranium for the nuclear power industry, Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has started producing uranium since 1966 and also generating huge quantity of mill tailings.
