Potable water is in acute shortage throughout the globe. The contamination of water due to chemical toxicants may vary from heavy metals, pesticides, PAH to unreacted or metabolites of chemical moieties. Arsenic contamination in drinking water is a longstanding environmental issue. The presence of arsenic in ground water has been of great public concern in West Bengal (India), Bangladesh and in some parts of China. Due to its high toxicity, especially regarding arsenite, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended a maximum of 10 µg/L arsenic limit in potable water. Attempts are being made for arsenic removal from water.
