Objective : To conduct 'Medical Audit' of the episiotomy policy of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Method : Episiotomy is the most commonly performed surgical procedure during delivery. The lack of consensus about routine or restricted use of episiotomy is reflected in the wide variation in the episiotomy rates reported in different studies. Medical Audit of episiotomy policy was conducted for singleton normal vaginal term deliveries in our hospital. Data was obtained from Labour room record and patient case files. Deliveries managed with routine use of episiotomy formed 'Group-1', while those managed with restricted use of episiotomy formed 'Group-2'.
