Fragneto Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology 2007, 20:165–167 INCIDENCE & ORGANISMS Based on studies from several countries, an estimated rate of meningitis associated with neuraxial anesthesia may be as high as 1.3 : 10 000, with most studies ranging from 1 : 10 000 to 1 : 50 000. For epidural abscess an incidence of 1 : 145 000,or seven per million, was found among the 1.16 million female populationfemale population The most common microorganism identified in epidural abscesses is Staphylococcus aureus.
