Objectives : To prove that a birthweight over 4.500 gr (9,921 pounds) does not always mean pathology ! We will demonstrate that such a high birthweight should be abnormal only if the mother's sizes are usual (percentile 50, height of 1 m 65 - 5,41 feet - and / or footsize of 37 - 4,5 UK - in our country) and if a mechanical distocy occurs during the delivery. Methods Our study is based on the retrospective analysis of 2.357 births in our Maternity, from 1 July 2006 until 30 June 2008, and tick off all the newborns of more than 4.500 gr. For each baby, we noted height and cranial perimeter, gestational age and echographic records.
