From the abstract

Introduction: Cesarean section is one of the most commonly performed surgical operations in obstetrics. In most developed countries cesarean birth is performed is 15-25%of deliveries with an associated matemal mortality of <1:10,000. The safety of lower uterine segment technique, the development of skilled anesthesia, availability of blood products, antibiotics, feasibility of normal delivery following cesarean section have contributed to the rise in incidence of LSCS. In developing countries over enthusiastic temptation to deliver vaginally when conditions are suboptimal may lead to obstructed labor when head is deeply wedged.
