From the abstract

Background Entropy and Bispectral index (BIS) have been promoted as EEG-based anaesthesia depth monitors. Limited studies have demonstrated that entropy tracks anaesthesia effect in adults. Entropy has the advantage of being independent of amplitude and frequency and hence has the potential to be less age specific and more useful in children. The aim of this study was validate entropy as a measure of depth of anaesthesia in children between 2-12 year age group and to correlate the entropy values with haemodynamic parameters. We also tried to assess if titrating the depth of anesthesia with entropy would result in faster awakening in children undergoing day care surgery.
