From the abstract

Introduction: Over the years Pap smear has been used as a conventional method of screening for cervical intra epithelial neoplasia. However, studies have shown that it has low sensitivity, requires trained personnel and laboratory facilities. VIA has been recommended by WHO as an alternative to Pap smear as it does not require second person for interpretation nor second visit by the patient. Objective: To find sensitivity and specificity of VIA in comparison to Pap smear using colposcopy directed cervical biopsy as a gold standard.
