Objectives : To assess whether midazolam plus fentanyl is a better alternative to diazepam plus pentazocine for intravenous analgesia for laparoscopic sterlisation under conscious sedation. Material and methods : Hundred consecutive patients requiring either interval tubal ligation or medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) and tubal ligation were randomized into two groups for intravenous analgesia and sedation in the family planning clinic at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from November 2006 to January 2007.
