From the abstract

Brimacombe described laryngoscopic assisted gum elastic bougie(GEB) guided placement of PLMA. Major advantage of this new technique is that it is associated with100% first attempt sucess rate compared to 88% & 84% with digital & introducer tool technique respectively. But since it requires laryngoscopic assistance, leading to higher pressor response ,hence nullifying advantage of PLMA being supraglottic airway device. Review of literature. King B.D. et al(1951) reported that pressor response during intubation is initiated by the laryngoscope pressing on the base of the tongue or lifting the epiglottis..
