From the abstract

Introduction : Accurate estimation of fetal weight is of paramount importance in the management of labor and delivery. During the last two decades, estimated fetal weight has been incorporated into the routine antenatal surveillance of high risk pregnancy and deliveries. Assessment of fetal weight in utero leads to an improved prospective management of hi risk pregnancy, VBAC, IUGR and intrapartum management of breech. It is also important when the interruption of the pregnancy is considered at a relatively elective time. A quick, easy and accurate method of fetal weight estimation in utero would be of obvious benefit to the obstetrician.
